… amazing grace…

… how sweet the sound…

Now referring to the sound of the coffee machine, getting into the kitchen this morning. I am not sure how the day would look like to me if the traditional coffee was not there to keep me company. As mentioned earlier, can’t hold a civil conversation, including a whole sentence before I have my cup, however I usually make it myself. The difference to most mornings, I was not the one getting to the machine first, which resulted in a happy event - it was served!!

Mittagskogel

Combined with a clear blue sky, sun and the cup of coffee, this day started off better then yesterday (this due to the coffee of course) and I was not forced into a conversation I couldn’t handle.

Morning mist

Still have some slight movement limitations, but I went to my dear physiotherapist this morning and got a great view of the Mittagskogel.

The rest of the after noon I spent on grasping the American history, all from the Turtles Island, New World, Revolutions, slavery and the past century resulting in America today, what it is and what to experience. The land of the opposites… I still believe though, that no matter country you visit, depending on sex, politic views, age and religion, one will experience a country differently and that this is nothing specific to the US. However, we shall not forget, due to the diversity of the cultures, landscape, traditions and languages in America we will experience something different to what we are used to, coming from Europe.

Starving - and food to be served..

…11th day of the 11th month…

… at the 11th hour and 11th minute - the carnival season has begun! The fifth season has opened it’s gates until the 17th of February  2010.

East

I have been extremely upset today, that my ankle has hindered me to enjoy a walk in the mountains. The weather has been perfect, with a clear blue sky, sun and high fresh air. I am starting to get itchy feet, not getting out of the house and limited by the pain in the foot. But it has to heal, nothing to do about that. It’s a challenge for the non-existing patience I have…

West

I will have a long chat with a friend over the air today and that will put me out of my misery. So glad there is a possibility to do a video call, as most of my dear ones live so far away, and we can’t see each-other that often. The worst part, is that you actually need to make an effort with how you look. Scaring them to death would not look good on my CV…

Still hungry - got to go..

… 9th of November 1989 the fall of the Berlin Wall paved the way for German reunification. 20 years ago, I was in my early teens and could not really grasp this historic moment, nor understand what people had been through, and I probably never will understand it to the full, grown up in the west, where we never were short of anything and had the right to speak up… I must admit watching television yesterday evening, hearing some of the stories, people telling their destiny, I was in tears. Even though most of us try to remind ourselves at times, how lucky we are and cherishing what we have, especially hearing this I am glad I always try to pursue my dreams and care for what I have…

It has been a great day around Wörthersee today, without rain and the mountains lay white around the lake… Still the colorful autumn trees give a nice contrast to the white and grey sky.

Awaiting my dear friend to visit and then going to put my still hurting foot up for the evening.

So long - stay connected

… there is no such thing as wrong shoes…

… only wrong flooring, which resulted in a torn ligament. The girls weekend was great, and the nightlife in Villach was kind to a girl on crutches.

The Saturday was spent, where most women love - clothes shops, enjoyed a lunch in Velden and set out to Villach for an evening out.  We started off at Racers where we had some drinks and food, combined with a great waitress, and ended up somewhere on the Lederergasse later on, where we most probably increased the average age to above 20. Despite the fact that we were the oldest ones in the bar, we had a lot of fun.

The Monday came and went with rain and I have also awarded my physiotherapist with, “the Most Patient Person” Award. I am not really sure he believed that there is no such thing as wrong shoes and suppressed a laugh when I explained that the parquet might not be done properly.

Tomorrow is another day and my mobility will improve…I am sure.

So long - there is no such thing as wrong shoes…amen

… rain and chili…

… a perfect combination…

After the dog refused to step outside in the pooring rain for a morning walk, I went to Velden to do the last minute shopping for the weekend, needed some sun as well and the studio is on the way there. I guess all Veldens population were shopping at the same time. The shop can’t be many m² and if I consider the amount of time I spent in there, the  minute/m² must have been close to 2. But got what I needed and there was even lunch in it for mum…

It has been poring down rain all morning and the weather forecast does not look that brilliant for the coming week. The next coming days will be busy and fun, awaiting the girls this afternoon.

Sweden won against Czech in ice hockey last night, however Austria lost against Belarus. Peter Forsberg did not succeed in making a goal, but I am glad he lasted as long as he did with his injury.

Think I will do the “cuddleupwithagoodbook” thingy and relax before the girls arrive.

So long - life is good

… powerplay tonight…

Sweden playing Czeck in ice hockey.. “Foppa” (Peter Forsberg), born in Örnsköldsvik in Sweden 20. July 1973, has 19 years of professional ice hockey career behind him and 13 years with NHL. He has for Sweden won 2 World Championships and two Olympic Gold medals and is a huge star in Sweden. Most Swedes, ice hockey fans or not will follow the game tonight.

I was introduced to ice hockey 17 years ago, living in Lapland and have loved the quick, rough sport since. I have spent many nights together with friend, freezing half to death at the rink, watching the local lads win or loose the games.

30 minutes and som seconds left until the game starts, and unfortunately the game will be watched on the computer as it will not be streamed live on telly…

Need to get myself sorted before the puck slides

So long -  no hockey without icing

…grey in grey,….

…it has been a miserable day…. at least when it comes to the weather… November rain..

Schloss Seefels

We enjoyed a great lunch at our neighbours, typical Wiener Schnitzel and Palatschinken with chocolate. The food-intake was huge and there will be no more to eat before mid-day tomorrow and I even think that is too soon.

The crisp bread stash is running low again and a visit to IKEA needs to be performed within the next 24 hours and some more shopping for a girls weekend prepared. Like men do men’s things together, girls do girly things, and this can not really be mixed up with the men-bonding stuff. Girls weekend, at least as we know it includes, good food, good wine, going out, sleep in, do the beauty thingy and chat about things men don’t want to hear.  The only thing men and women bonding have in common is being among themselves and have a blast.

So long - stay safe

… outsourcing is part of life…

…at least when it comes to construction drawings, re-building and the law. The law is always the tricky part, as it’s not always common sense but a jungle of paragraphs not many of us can decode. Or shall I say, I have some issues with the purpose of some of the laws created, not that I am against following them, don’t get me wrong, it’s just that there is no real goal with them at all…

Thank God, there are people, whom I have the pleasure to know, giving me the guiding principle and helping hand, when I express an urgent cry for help.  Generally, everybody should have following occupations covered in their family if possible; a lawyer, a financial adviser, a handy-man (woman), an architect and a tax-adviser. I am dearly thankful though, that friends are willing to put up with my ever so intelligent questions(?) once in a while.

Still counting the days until the new fireplace arrives. I don’t really mind the cold, but as I am a person, getting cold quickly and during the winter months my body heat must be close to zero, I am not really appreciating the kitchen to lack a fire place. Full stop.

Rain did actually turn into snow during the night. Even though we didn’t need to get out the shovels in Techelsberg this morning, I guess our neighbours in Velden did. This afternoon, there was still snow some kilometres to the west from us,   when driving to Villach and the Karawanken where shining white in-front of me. The air smelled as winter does, cold air, mixed with wood burning in the stoves and leafs decomposing.

Will now enjoy a glass of red wine,

So long - thumbs up for outsourcing..

…will rain turn into snow?

The temperatures have been just above 3C° degrees today and this afternoon the rain started coming down. It feels like snow is in the air and I am prepared to shovel snow this winter, as I accidentally mentioned, during a weak moment, that I do not really mind. Still enjoying the autumn colors and hoping the leafs won’t fall off too quickly.

autumn tree

Have been back and forward to Klagenfurt twice today and made a visit to the physio in Velden this morning. So that means, that I have spent most of the day in the car, with the heat on full blast and radio Ö3 in the background. Even though the volume has been on the highest level, you can’t hear much when the heating system is on. I don’t really get along with the car and think it’s useless most of the time actually. There is not even a seat-warmer, nor air-condition to make up to the low horse power and uncomfortable seats. Never-mind - it’s just a car and gets us from A to possibly B.

So long - seat-warmers are dearly missed…

… picture hanging riped….

…and are now in placed above the kitchen table, just the way they were set out to be. Still wonder if the result would have been different last week, but I will not argue on this one. You need to pick your fights well and not for the sake of it, a wise man told me once and believe it or not - I listened.

Rather cold this morning but cleared up this afternoon and all the autumn colors were shining stong in the afternoon sun.

1st November 1604, the tradgedy Othello (by William Shakespeare) , the Moor of Venice was presented for the first time, at  Whitehall Palace in London. This play is still very popular and still performed considering that racism, love, jealousy, and betrayal are valid even today, 400 years later.

In 1805, Napoleon Bonaparte invades Austria during the War of the Third Coalition and in 1870, the United States, the Weather Bureau (later renamed the National Weather Service) makes its first official meteorological forecast.

On the 1st November 1993, the Maastricht Treaty takes effect, formally establishing the European Union and the creation of the Euro currency.  The Treaty is also know as the pillar structure of the European Union and divides it into the European Community (EC) pillar, the Common Foreign and Security Policy (CFSP) pillar, and the Justice and Home Affairs (JHA) pillar. Since 2007 it is simplyfied into EU only.

Today in Ireland the Samhain - the traditional first day of the winter is celebrated. Samhain finalized the end of the harvest, the end of the “lighter half” of the year and beginning of the “darker half”. Many believe that it was the beginning of the Celtic year and has some elements of a festival of the dead.  The Gaelic custom of wearing costumes and masks, was an attempt to copy the evil spirits or placate them. The Gaelic festival became associated with the Christian All Saints’ Day and All Souls’ Day, and has hugely influenced the secular customs now connected with Halloween.

So long all Saints…
