…. Forstsee is located between Pörtschach and Velden on approx 600 metres and is a rather small lake with its 26 hectare. A small trail brings you around the lake and the area is perfect for hiking.  For those of you with dogs, they can almost everywhere enjoy a swim. This brought me there today.

Not that my spoilt dog would even think as far as getting into the water without his mum being there too, and when he gets in, he takes a few strokes, swims around me and then places himself demonstratively on-top of my clothes. Which means that I need to dry myself on the towel, meant for the dog and wait for my clothes to become dry(ish), before heading back. But I enjoyed sitting there at the water on a stone, watching the peaceful lake. An old man rowed past me, called out that it was a beautiful day, kept on fishing and moved on. That was about all people I saw.

The peace, the dark but clear water, the trees and the untouched terrain reminded me of Lapland, where I spent many years of my life and enjoyed dearly. The peace and quiet once in a while, has always given me strength and a better sense of self to be able to attack a new challenging day, enabled me to free my mind and appreciate what a new day brings. I guess that’s why I never really could appreciate living in the city, the country gal as I am.
